Adventure Vacation Week in Dominican Republic

Interested in the highest adventures Dominican Republic has to offer? Adventuresque is an 8 day adventure vacation week created by Matt McArthur, our managing guide at Kayak River Adventures. This adventure vacation week takes you caving to the Caves of Poimer, white water rafting in the central mountains, mountain biking over 50km, canyoneering “the Ultimate”, surfing Playa Encuentro, and scuba diving the reefs off the North Coast.

This week was created by our managing guide Matt McArthur. Many of you have been on adventures with him. When he is not taking guests out on high adventure excursions, he is exploring the hidden adventure gems of Dominican Republic. Thinking that visitors to the island would enjoy a adventure vacation week package, he put one together.

This week includes all lodging, most meals, and a healthy dose of the best adventures Dominican Republic has to offer. This week is for those looking for the Ultimate  in High-Adventure. A high light is doing the entire canyon in our Ultimate Canyoning Excursion and caving the Caves of Poimer.

Hot Days, Cool Kayaking Dominican Republic

We are lucky to be based in the land of the the eternal summer. Our life is outside. But even how great summer can be it’s nice to cool off every once and a while. That’s what makes our rivers’ perfect. Our half-day and full-day Kayaking trips are a great way to have a heat retreat and spend sometime in the beautiful nature that surrounds Cabarete.

Our Kayaking Dominican Republic tours are “tranquilo.” The Spanish word for “chill” or “easy going”. They great way to spend the day, beating the heat for the young and the young at heart.

During the 10km (6 mile) trip we take breaks to spend time in the spring fed Jamao and Yassica Rivers. We provide a few masks if anyone wants to checkout fish and plant life that lives in this bio-diverse area of Dominican Republic’s North Coast.

We also put a rope swing up to get your adrenaline pumping as well as show you which tree you can climb for a nice 12 meter (40 feet) jump into the clear, cool, river. Our kayak trip here in the Dominican Republic provides a little of something for everyone. This same trip can be done as a  half-day River SUP Tour or a full-day River SUP Tour as well.

For those that do not swim, no worries! We provide life jackets that are always to be kept on during your kayak trip. Our kayaking and  River SUP tours are a chose your own adventure!

Please do hesitate to Contact Us to make a booking or if you have more questions about one of exciting river adventures.

Family Activities in Cabarete

Family Activities in Cabarete

We get asked all the time about family activities in Cabarete. Well we are here to tell you that our half-day kayak trip is one of the most fun you could have with kids or kids at heart in Cabarete. We are excellent taking children as young as three and as old as eighty-five on our river.

Both the rivers we kayak on for our half-day kayak trip have the perfect amount of flow that make the trip enjoyable, not too easy and definitely not too much. During the kayak tour down river we stop to enjoy the nature, go swimming, have fresh fruit and juice snacks, and put up a rope swing.

At the end of this tour we enjoy a hearty Dominican style lunch next to the river. The half-day kayak trip is one of our most popular tours and many of our guests come back for a repeat, because it is that enjoyable.

Family Activities in Cabarete with Teens

Family activities in Cabarete

Our half-day Magic Mushroom Canyoning Tour is a great activity to do with your teens. This tour we take those twelve years old and above. We have made exceptions and taken those as young as nine with parental guidance and vouch that their children are brave enough to rappel off waterfalls. All three of our expert guides are parents and understand the concerns parents might have during such a big adventure activity as canyoning, but rest assured you and your family’s safety, enjoyment, and comfort are in the best hands.

If you are interested in taking your family out on an adventure that can be from the mild to the wild during your stay in Cabarete, Sosua, or Puerto Plata, please contact us and we will put together an adventure that your family will never forget.

Cliff Jumping

How to Make Big Jumps Like a Pro

By | News

Cliff Jumping

So those big jumps in the canyon look like fun? Of course they do. We understand that making big jumps is not for everyone, but that’s why the canyon is full of adventure options. Our most popular tour in the canyon is The Magic Mushroom. In the is tour there is an option for a jump that is between 45 and 53 feet (13.7-16.2 meters). For those that want the ultimate rush this will probably be the highest jump that they will ever make in their life.

But the goal in this canyoning option is that you make this big jump like a pro, not just fall off a cliff. First and foremost a high jump off an uneven cliff is mind game. Your brain is both trying to protect your life and make sure that it derives pleasure for its bravery. I will say the longer you wait once you are at the cliff, the longer your brain has to make up frightening scenarios. I always tell people to commit to that first feeling to jump.

Now for the jump itself it’s all about body control and using gravity as your friend, not your foe. The unfortunate thing about this is that once you have committed to the jump and leaped into the air, your body is in the worst possible body position to land in the deep pool below.

It all starts with your eyes. Once you are in the air, looking down at where your landing compacts the body and gets it ready to absorb the impact of hitting the water. Your feet need to be somewhat together and a slight bend to the knees. If you bend the knees too much you will land on your butt. The last thing to do is bring the arms in so they don’t get smacked on impact.

If you are interested in canyoning and making or at least watching someone making this jump please contact us and make a reservation for nature’s ultimate rush.

If you want to watch a short, yet really cool video of others making this 50 foot jump, including the Steve-O from Jackass, just follow the link below.

Scrambling Through Canyons in the Dominican Republic

By | News

What is Canyoning? One may ask. It is travelling through a river canyon by any means necessary. These means include walking, scrambling, technical jumping, swimming, and technical rappelling.

Canyoning is considered an adventure activity.  The canyon that we tour through at Kayak River Adventures is simply awesome.  The canyon has three parts The Magic Mushrooms (photos below), The Big Bastard, and Ciguapa Falls.

Each part is equally exciting and provide plenty of adventure.  The photos below are from a Magic Mushroom tour that we took on June 7th, 2014.  We as guides had a blast and as you can see by the photos so did the guests we took out for an adventure.  If you are interested in coming on one of our numerous adrenaline pumping adventures please contact us.
